Your First Dental Visit

As a new patient, your initial appointment will consist of a:

  • Examination and consultation
  • Periodontal probing
  • Hard and soft tissue evaluation
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Prophylaxis (dental) cleaning

If you are diagnosed with an oral health problem like gum disease and require more than just a cleaning, we will help schedule a second appointment for you. Patients who require further treatment need further consultations so we can evaluate their smiles and design a customized treatment plan.

Please let our office know if you have medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves, and joints. Also let us know what medications you are taking, including heart medications, aspirin, and blood thinners. Please have your previous dentist send all x-rays to our office before your appointment. If you are unable to obtain the previous x-rays they can be taken in our office.

The Benefits of Dental Cleanings

Dental cleanings offer multiple benefits to patients of all ages, including plaque removal, brighter teeth, and fresher breath. Our dental hygienists use specialized dental tools and equipment to reach areas of the mouth that are typically hard to clean. These areas are prone to tooth decay or gum disease because plaque can build up on the teeth and gums. Plaque is a sticky deposit that builds up above and below the gum line. Dental cleanings help prevent infection by removing plaque.

They can also help remove tooth stains or signs of tooth discoloration. Over time, with the help of regular professional cleanings, the tooth enamel can become whiter and brighter. Halitosis, also known as bad breath, is often caused by poor oral hygiene. Bad breath can also be a sign of tooth or gum infections. Going to the dentist for regular dental cleanings keeps your breath fresh.
